What you can learn from a rock band

by Jessica on January 30, 2008

I recently bought concert tickets for my current favorite band (the Foo Fighters-I’m absolutely obsessed!) and it was by far the most exciting part of my day – heck, of my whole week! It got me thinking – do I ever get this excited about banking? (answer: no.)

I got an email allowing me to be among the first to buy tickets, and you better believe that when the clock struck 10am, I was frantically opening my browser to buy my tickets. I was actually giddy…almost shaking with the excitement!

I have since told pretty much everyone I know about the concert and my ticket buying experience – and you know the part I leave out? The somewhat ridiculous price I paid – that doesn’t even matter to me, because I’m so infatuated with this band that I’d pay (almost) anything to see them.

Do your customers get giddy about your bank or credit union? Do they flood your website to be among the first to sign up for a new online checking account? Do they tell everyone they know about the amazing experience they had signing up for that account?

I’m guessing not…but if you built a bank brand or credit union brand that customers could resonate with so deeply that they got giddy about what you offer, they would. And, they wouldn’t line up for it because it was the cheapest product, or had the best rate – they’d line up for it because it was from the bank or credit union that made them excited to be a customer.
