We’ve all been working hard and could use a break. So, today instead of making anyone think too much, I would like to share with you some yummy architectural eye candy — a few delicious bank branch interiors and exteriors from around the world. Please notice one important fact. You don’t have to be boring to be a bank. You can get people’s attention by being buzzworthy, unique, differentiated and by proving your brand’s story through environmental design – an important component of bank marketing and branding.

The DZ Bank building (formerly DG Bank building) in Berlin. It was designed by Frank Gehry. Hiring a famous architect to design for you is a great way to get your bank noticed and to stand out from the pack! Customers would enjoy visiting a bank branch as unique and elegant as this. Just in itself, the experience of entering the building would make it worthwhile. In addition, the impressive design would make the customer feel more sophisticated for banking there.

Here is the Nihonbashi branch of Bank of Tokyo – Mitsubishi UFJ. I found this picture on this Flickr page, and the photographer said that the building was so cool that he/she walked right in and opened an account. Again, further proof of how incredibly influential environmental design and customer experience is.
You’ll notice that all the examples in this two-part post series are from international banks. That’s because, just as we encourage looking outside of our industry for inspiration, sometimes it’s also good to look outside of our borders.
