Ally Bank – humor, children and toys

by Alicia on July 16, 2009

One of the people in our office brought these hilarious commercials to our attention and I had to write about them. They are by Ally Bank and they do a great job of pointing out the faults of “Big Banks” – but in a fun and light-hearted way. There are three of them that I have seen, all including children and some sort of toy. Somehow, the toy has restrictions that the kids did not know about and you see the frustration and sadness on their face when “Mr. Banker” tells them about it. The point in each is that even kids know when they are being treated unfairly, sold short, or lied to.

These spots are a great example of how one can use humor to make a point, (too bad bank marketers are notoriously afraid of doing so). They are easy to want to talk about and to share with family, friends and co-workers. They are memorable, and that in and of itself is important in the financial industry. I think Ally did a great job with these commercials and I still laugh every time I see them. Can’t wait to see the next one…I hope it has something to do with legos.

This spring I opened 5 CD’s with GMAC in an effort to diversify my
holdings with different financial institutions as the concern over
bank failures was increasing.

Through the GMAC / ALLY transition they effectively reduced my 2.65%
APY to 2.6% APY on my CD’s. This is BULL S$IT Ally. I am Finance
Major and I know how to calculate NPV equations.

ALLY will never receive another penny from me. I am staying with ING.

ALLY you are crooks!!!!
